Public Affairs or Espionage?
You may have seen this video, which Wikileaks dubbed "Collateral Murder" when it released footage from an Apache helicopter. Chelsea Manning, the person who released this video as well as other top-secret documents -- the biggest release of classified documents in U.S. history -- was sentenced to 35 years in prison. (Others suggested she should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.)
In a letter to President Obama, Manning wrote, "Whenever we killed innocent civilians, instead of accepting responsibility for our conduct, we elected to hide behind the veil of national security and classified information in order to avoid any public accountability."
A prosecutor countered, "this court must send a message to any soldier contemplating stealing classified information."
This tragic video shows the results of gunners on U.S. Apache helicopter firing on what its crew believed were insurgents; in fact, it was a Reuters photographer and his assistant, according to Wikileaks
The government deemed this top secret. Manning, one of almost 1.5 million Americans with top-secret clearance, released it anyways. What do you think?
