Feature and Narrative

The great Jimmy Breslin left a legacy of storytelling about the minor characters in American public life.

"Don’t go where the crowd is," he said. "... If I had anything that helped me make a living in this business, it is a great aversion to being with somebody else. If I go there and there are reporters, I may as well go home.”

His story on Clifton Pollard is held up as an exemplar of such feature writing. Rewrite it as a breaking news lead.
